Today my work had a bocce ball post-busy season party. That is what spurred my excited “crack ball” nonsense. Yes I know the name is bocce ball, but that was only learned recently. Cale and I first discovered crack ball during our honeymoon. Heads out of gutters now. Thanks.
The first week of our honeymoon was spent in a small beach town in the south of France. Cale’s aunt and her husband own an apartment there, so Cale organized the trip with them. The first part of our two week honeymoon to be spent relaxing and laying out by the beach. St Pierre la Mer was filled with couples, though these couples were more likely to be enjoying their fiftieth wedding anniversary than their honeymoon. Lucky for us, our room was near the gathering place, the crack ball court. Dozens of seasoned, shirt-less men would gather with their crack balls in tow to play the serious game. As we were still sleeping until after 2 pm struggling to recover from jet-lag, we could hear the crack of the crack balls outside. Hence the name.

I finally got a shot of it as we were leaving to catch our train. You’ve got to click for the full-res on this one. Silver haired foxes they are.
So today we were off to Campo di bocce in Los Gatos. It was so fun! And my team was the crack ball champion! We won $50 gift cards to Campo di bocce and a bottle of their wine. Expect to see more of me on the crack ball court. Maybe when Cale and I visit St Pierre again I can show those men who’s boss. with my shirt on though.

Because I felt left out. good form whoever you are Stan

victory never tasted so much like red wine

Every year at my niece’s birthday party her Nono and many uncles play bocce. I knew that’s what you were talking about.
I wonder if my mom still has her bocce ball set
Congrats on your victory!
PS, that pic is mighty scary!
You’re a cracker! Didn’t we used to play that at Grandmas house when we were little? Or was that something different?
That was croquet.. Bocce ball has no mallets, you just toss it. soo much fun
First of all, I like the label on the wine! It looks neato! OH man…and your picture of “you” playing crackball- he! Nice form you got there!
I remember you told me you also went to Paris on your honeymoon— that’s so neat that you were able to go to other places in France! And that you went for two weeks! I wanna see more pics!
I love that the men would play crack ball (the name makes sense to me!)– other cultures are so interesting.
p.s. YAY! I’m gonna go check out those pics!!! And also, I’m a dork– your comment made me realize that I spelled Anthropologie wrong. Ha! You’d think if I loved it so much, I would spell it correctly!
you are so funny. I especially loved your silver-haired foxes comment!
