We have returned from our weekend away. And because we left in such haste I completely forgot my digital camera, so you will all have to wait for me to develop the film from the rebel borrowed from my mom to see the beauty that is Carmel and the 17 mile drive. I believe I had to wipe the drool from Cale’s mouth as we passed first Poppy Hills, then Spanish Bay, Spyglass, and lastly Pebble Beach. Though I must say, if every time I played golf it was on a cliff overlooking the ocean, I would play much more often.
The weekend was so relaxing and lovely. The B&B we stayed at was wonderful for the cost, including a lovely breakfast and a wine and cheese reception in the evening. Friday evening we ate sushi at a small sushi bar that played country music over the radio. The sushi was quite satisfying though. Saturday morning we ventured to the nearby beach to read and nap on the sand listening to the waves crashing and the dogs playing in the sand. It was so lovely that we overstayed our welcome in the sun and ended up with horrendous sunburns! When you pass a certain age, people look at your burned skin with contempt and a shameful glance. We covered up at much as possible for a lunch of sandwiches on divine croissants at a boulangerie, reminiscent of our honeymoon in France. We then visited l’Occitane in search of after-sun lotion, and I snuck into anthropologie to find an adorable shirt in the sale section. After shopping, we secluded ourselves back in the room, as our skin had us both in quite a lot of pain. A quick drive for fast food and tylenol settled us in for the evening with several video cassettes from the b&b office. We relaxed in bed watching videos and trying to rehydrate ourselves with water while the fireplace warmed the room. It was so nice to get away for the weekend.
Today we woke up late and headed down for breakfast before getting ready to drive back. First we took the 17 mile drive and marveled at the beauty. We were able to return home nice and early, which itself was quite a treat: to go on a vacation and then have the luxury of vegging out at home. We were sad to find out that Brodie and Neo (the cat) did not get along too well over the weekend, but after several hours at home, things seem to be back to normal. I am now enjoying some solo time as Cale has been asleep in bed for a good two hours now.

I have to give a big thank you to Alyssa and my sister for doing a wonderful job at guest blogging while we were away. I really appreciate it, and if you have not done so already, go take a gander at their posts. You will most definitely learn a few new things about us
Now if only these sunburns can fade into nice tans before Tuesday, our actual anniversary.

Coincidence? I’m watching Becoming Jane right now… haha!
