23 going on 60

Twenty-Somethings. We all have our issues. Quarter-life crises. Pregnancy (for some, not me. Calm down!). Weddings. Careers. The common denominator: stress. And through all that we may forget the most important part of ourselves that we present to the world: our face. Sure you may wear makeup, but what about skin care? Washing your face in the shower is not all you need anymore ladies. We are just one step away from sixty. (Okay maybe a little dramatic, but seriously. We’re getting old).

Morgan’s declaration of her love for Philosophy yesterday reminded me of my lonely jar of night cream in our medicine cabinet. During college I was religious about putting eye and night cream on after washing my face every single night. Then I got married, moved, and my routine is all our of whack. Thanks to Bare Escentuals boasting that it will not ruin your skin if you forget to wash your face at night, I forget every single night.

Well last night I opened up my blessed jar of night cream and even slathered on some eye cream. Among the many things I want to improve about myself, I can now add to the list being better about caring for my skin. Here is iVillage’s list of what us twenty-somethings should be doing. Just as an example I am going to share some of my favorite products:

Philosophy’s When Hope is Not Enough is so rich but doesn’t leave your skin super greasy

l’Occitane’s Immortelle eye cream. Does anyone else adore l’Occitane as much as I do? Love.

Am I the only person terrified of what my forty year old face will look like? Well maybe it’s just because both the hubs and I are notorious for our forehead wrinkles. Oh our poor future children.

ohh the wrinkles….

I use a cleanser, moisturizer & sunscreen in the morning. then the same cleanser at night, then a night solution and moisturizer again. and twice a week a microdermabraision solution. Oh and eye cream. Lol. when I run out, and since I’ll be poor…we’ll see. Hah! (since that all was a gift!) i also have Hope in a bottle.

    Alyssa,

Yeah my trick is to ask for all my expensive beauty stuff for Christmas. It usually will last me almost the whole year.. Just in November I may not look so pretty :) lol

Again, thanks for the link love. :)

I have become SO lazy with my skin care routine too… I used to be hardcore about it! That replenishing cream is looking very tempting right about now…

Skin care is super important! Kyle jokes that I use so many products that my face is never going to get a wrinkle. If only that were true.

I use a lot of Estee Lauder… since I used to work there. But on the months that I’m broke, I actually really like Avon. They have good stuff and lots of deals each month. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Philosophy and L’Occitane though… and was planning on trying them out very soon. :-)

Skin care is so pricey though. Its almost enough for me to take out a line of equity on our house.

Dangit! I need to start worrying about wrinkles and eye cream?! WAHHHH!!! Another thing to worry about and spend money on?! I think I’m going to cry. I hope crying doesn’t affect my eyes too much! Or I’ll have to buy extra eye cream!

Oh my goodness, I LOVE Philosophy products, they are so creamy and luxurious. I also love L’occitane (even though I am not sure how to pronounce it ahha), all of their stuff makes me want to move to France.

I love seeing that other people are as fanatical about their skin care. I am big on sunscreen, never leave the house with out sunscreen especially on my face. I use moisturizer morning and night and eye cream and a daily exfoliant and hope that I can hold off wrinkles for as long as possible. I use Dermalogica but I have also used Aveeno products, they are definitely more affordable BUT since I am getting older I need more serious stuff. Oh the joys of being a woman.

L’Occitane is a gift from Heaven. I absolutely love their sensitive skin line which includes a face wash and toner combo that you use without water (truly the key to keep from having dry skin). I used to worry more about wrinkles, but then I realized worrying causes the most wrinkles so, totally not worth it. I have good jeans, I look at my mom and grandmother and hope for the best!

I am the ultimate in laziness when it comes to my cleansing & mosturizing routine. I use Bare Minerals, too, and NEVER wash my face unless I’m taking a shower.

It’s sad, really. Plus, I’m pitiful in my usage of SPF. (Um, I don’t. Unless I’m going be out on a boat or something!)

I’ve heard so much great stuff about Hope in a Jar. Is it really that great? It’s so pricey! Ah!

Hehehe… you crack me up because that’s what I’m always worried about too. What will I LOOK like when I’m 40?? 50?? Ahhh!!! A friend and I spent about an hour in Sephora the other day looking for every face product that contained the highest SPF. I think I’m a little (a lot) vain, and if I start getting wrinkly… ooooh. I’ll cry. However… you bring up a good point because I hardly ever EVER actually wash my face. I know, that’s totally discusting, but I’m lazy, what can I say? I need to start doing it every single night!!

this is good to know.. I know the older I get the younger I want to look LOL… I just started using an anit-wrinkle moisturizer and I felt so upset about it for about a week (i know I’m a loser)!! LOL.. Oh the beauty of getting older..

L’Occitane Honey and Lemon Delightful Cream…

    Thank goodness for Sephora!

I love Philospophy products. I actually got hooked on them one Christmas season because they have a 3-in-1 wash that smells like cinnamon buns. LOVE IT!
I use Biore moisturizer in the morning with sunscreen because it doesn’t leave me feeling oily.
I like Oil of Olay Reginerist moisturizer at night. It finishes like a powder so again, no oily feeling.

Wow, I have not worn makeup in ages, I mean like once or twice a year for the last few years, that’s it. Heck, I’m married and forty and survived cancer I just don’t try to look all beautiful - probably cuz I don’t feel so beautiful but you go girl. :) I’m sure you will be just as beautiful at forty as you are now!
