The Rest of Tahoe

The rest of Tahoe.. and boy did we rest. I know I know, I fail at posting about vacations afterwards. Two weeks after we got back I finally posted about Day One and now two weeks after that I’m finally sharing the rest of the weekend. It’s hard! And that’s my excuse, take it or leave it.

After we got back from our day on the boat, we dragging our sunburned selves upstairs to recoup on the couches. My dad made sure we were well fed for dinner, and I made sure to eat almost the entire container of Red Vines. Exhausted, I headed to bed nice and early while Cale played a hand of canasta. That shows you how tired I was; I could not even make it through canasta, my favorite game. Of course as life would have it, the dogs had other things in mind that night. Both came down with a nasty tummy bug one after the other. I managed the first shift, letting Maisie outside everytime she whimpered, staying awake to make sure bears did not get her while she was outside and then letting her back in. Only to have to let her out again twenty minutes later. Once she was feeling better and I got a hour of sleep, Brodie started up. This would be when I begged Cale that “I need sleep..” and he took over. People have compared this to having children, but I promise I will not just put our kids outside when they aren’t feeling well. Especially since the next morning when Cale let the dogs out again, he saw a nice big bear run up the side of the mountain behind the house. Good thing we didn’t just leave them outside.

The next day, Cale and I were of course not up to doing much of anything besides eating and sleeping, so that’s what we did. Thankfully our cabin had a pool table, so there was entertainment to be had indoors. That evening, we took a trip to get ice cream, and then the kids (us, along with my brother and sister) drove down to South Lake Tahoe for some entertainment and shopping. The next day we had a nice lunch to celebrate my mom’s birthday before heading back home.

Pre-haircut Cale kicks my booty at pool.

And so did my mom. It really wasn’t fair.

My way of getting back at them: hijacking the jukebox and playing three hours worth of The Beatles.

We also brought our Wii along for some Wii Fit competition.

Brodie enjoying the new location for excellent bird-watching.

That evening we did make time for some cuddling.

And Maisie even squeezed into the little dog bed the owners of the cabin left. I’m not sure how long she stayed in there. I was already in bed by then.

Once they were feeling better, the pups got to sleep in bed with us.

And they continued to nap all day long around the house.

This was Maisie’s way of helping in the kitchen.

The result was super yummy.

My sister’s boyfriend Thomas joined us on the last day.

We had a fun lunch at one of the local places.

And then we were on our way home.

Cale made me take a picture of the awesome gas mileage we got on the way out of Tahoe.

So there you have it. Our trip to Tahoe. Finally all wrapped up. It’s hard to believe that was a month ago. It was a wonderful relaxing vacation that may have to become a tradition, minus the dog diarrhea.

Tahoe is so awesome! I really do love it there. If it wasn’t so expensive I would totally live there (during the summer). Sorry the puppies weren’t feeling well.

What great documentation you did! Your poor doggies- and poor you and Cale! I have to say, they really bring back a feel of Scotland. Believe it or not, everyone there (well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration) had a Scotty dog. Is that your turquoise purse one of them is laying by? SO cute. Oh, and I’m with you on the red vines. AMAZING.

    Megan,

Oh now that would be cool. I just love scotties, I think they are too adorable. And no that’s actually my sister’s purse. She always has the cutest ones.

  5. mmmm now I want some french toast! Looks like a lot of fun/relaxing time. Jon and I are going to Tahoe this coming weekend. :)

To clarify, the bear ran from the side of the house up the mountain. It was no more than 10′ away when I opened the balcony door. The story makes it sound like we saw it scamper away in the distance, when in reality it could have eaten the dogs and myself for breakfast.

  7. Caitlyn says:

It definitely could. I was there. And it kind of took him a while to run away. Totally a 30 second encounter…at least. Ah, I want to go backkkk.

  8. Caitlyn says:

p.s. why always put the worst pictures of me up possible?? to defend myself, I was sick and sunburnt that day at lunch.

  9. fantastic photos … Why can’t every day be vacation?

RE: the gas mileage, I am assuming you guys have a hybrid- that is amazing gas mileage I can see why Cale would want you to take a photo.

aw, your poor puppers. What a rough night for you all! You guys’ll be all set for parenting. hehe

But oh, what a lovely, lovely cabin that is and how very relaxing it all sounds. Any chance the WHOLE family could just go up there and stay for, like, a week?? :) Seriously… how fun would that be. We need to do something like that sometime!!

I’m glad you and your family had such a wonderful time. Love the pictures!
