Hello October

October 1st, 2008

(You must read that title in a sexy voice. It’s required. That’s right, go back and read it again… Much Better).

Two lovely ladies: Mrs Sarah Marie P and Miss Sensibly Sassy Sarah inspired quite a wonderful family get together for my family a few weekends ago where we got crafty. Sarah and Sarah both made wreaths that they were going to post about on October First, and they invited others to join in. I was elated. I love crafting. Two Valentine’s Days back my family got together and made Valentine’s wreaths; it was so much fun to see how different everyone’s turned out and of course to hear all the great ideas that were shared. Once I heard about making autumn wreaths I immediately called my mom and told her about it. So before we knew it I was in town, and my mom and I were in Michael’s buying out all things fall: leaves, berries, wreaths, feathers, and of course, metallic spray paint (you should know I’m a big fan of that).

What better way to welcome October than by sharing my creation.

The crafting station. A must have for any crafting adventure. Ours was outside, and in an attempt to avoid the hot Bakersfield sun, we waited a wee bit too long and ended up crafting in the dark. That results in some interesting wreaths.

The finished projects ready to be taken home. Look at all the fall goodness!

My sister Cait had a hot glue gun injury. Be careful! And no she is not just pouting because she couldn’t have that Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

Oh yummy metallic spray-painted acorns.

And feathers!

And the finished project! I would like to thank Talia for that beautiful bow. Mine looked like a kindergartner who was just learning how to ties their shoes made it.

You can also go check out Talia’s lovely wreath as well.

Happy October everyone.

Talia should do a tutorial on good bows.

Because it’s essential to crafting and oftentimes? I FAIL.

    C’mon, Talia!!

Love the wreath! That turned out so beautifully! I love arts and crafts. Can’t wait for that, and decorating in general, to be in my budget again.

    So what’s your next project?

  12. Talia says:

I’m so glad you posted the pictures of yours, because I totally could not remember what it looked like! It’s so pretty. Really, you girls did a FABULOUS job picking out stuff to put on our wreaths.
I’m also glad you linked to mine, since I was not aware we were to share them on October 1st… what a great idea though.

As far as knowing how to make good bows (and really, mine are so basic, I don’t know much at all), to those who asked, my only tip is this: Have a couple of little girls, and then you will learn how to tie good bows. Because you have to, it is a requirement.

lol… I know, I’m not incredibly helpful, am I!! but seriously, I used to stink at tying bows too, and the only reason I know how today is because I wanted to be able to tie cute bows on my girls’ dresses. There, my secret is out. :)

  13. I’m loving the feathers and those super-cool acorns and the pinecones and little berries (or whatever those are called) — so very cool! Sounds like your fam had so much fun! I want one of those mike’s lemonades! haha. Yummers. Ouchie – hot glue gun injuries are the WORST! Your wreath rocks so hard! And yeah, I can’t make bows either — but Talia did an awesome job!

  14. Dana says:

it is so pretty…. how very creative!!! I hate hot glue injuries…. last year in school i had the hot glue gun behind my desk so the kids wouldn’t get burned – don’t ask me how one of the kids burned their ear!!

  15. Caitlyn says:

the second nastiest picture of me ever (next to the one you got of me being a pig). your camera sucks (at least for me). let’s change that this weekend or something.

  16. Caitlyn says:

let me clarify…its not your camera that sucks but your camera sucks for getting only bad pictures of me. therefore, your camera does not suck for finger sucks for snapping it at the worst possible moment :)

  17. Caitlyn says:

your** not for. okay i’m done commenting away on my own comments.

  18. Susan says:

Super cute wreath!! Now I want one!

  19. Steph says:

    Mermanda,

Thanks for stopping by! You should have seen me when I saw the feathers at Michael’s. I may have squealed a little bit :)

I’ll have to go check out your wreath. And I totally agree, I am so excited to decorate for winter. It’s my favorite.

  20. um, it’s beautiful! i love it!

  21. Lydia says:

I love your wreath! It’s absolutely gorgeous! the feathers make it very unique. I just love that everything feels so fallish lately. If you have not heard the song Autumn by Paolo Nutini I would definititely recommend listening to it. It makes the season all the better!
