And there is hope

November 3rd, 2008

Last week while I was in Orlando, I was ecstatic when I heard the quick announcement on the news that said Bill Clinton and Obama would be rallying in Orlando on Wednesday evening. Hey, I’m in Orlando! And I’m free that evening! Sweeeeeet! This is stuff that never happens in California. We never get anyone rallying because we’re kind of a gimme state. So I would finally get my opportunity to experience the excitement that comes with a political rally.

So I dragged two of my willing coworkers with me. They got to see a new Stephanie. One in her sneakers, hopping and skipping with shear excitement.

There were so many people, all different, but all equally as inspired. The cold stayed away, with so many people around to keep us warm.

He was first introduced by Bill Clinton who gave a wonderfully motivating speech.

And then Barack spoke around midnight, and everyone listened and cheered and felt the hope.

Every single thing that was said at that rally is something I believe in. I look at Obama, and I see someone who I can trust. Who I identify with. Someone who is educated, intelligent, level-headed. Someone who will lead our country and do an amazing job.

I left the rally with a full heart and tears rimming my eyelids. I sang “Only in America, Where we dream as big as we want to, We all get a chance, Everybody gets to dance” and I danced, in my sneakers, embarrassing my coworkers but so happily oblivious to the crowds around me.

So tomorrow I will be watching the news closely. And I hope the only discomfort I feel is the effect of lactose on my tummy after my free ice cream cone. It’s an exciting exciting time folks.

YAY! I’m so glad you went and I’m completely jealous that you got to experience something that a lot of us will never get to experience in our lifetimes. Seeing a hopeful future president speak along with a great former president. Yeah, I’m jealous.

Free Ben and Jerry’s?? Do we have one of those in Bakersfield? Lame.

What an amazing event! I think that I would have been completely hysterical and excited… Ooh, and I’m so excited about all the free coffee and food-that’s-terrible-for-me that I’m getting just for voting, which is, as my fiance commented, is almost literally the least we can do (right?).

Woo-hoo! It’s great that you got the opportunity to see them give some incredible speeches. I’ll be on edge all day tomorrow, just like you. OBAMA-BIDEN ’08!!!

  4. Wow, you are so lucky you got to see that! But I am sure you already knew that. I am excited for our political meet up tomorrow!

How unbelievably cool! I wish I could have had the chance to see him speak. I am so anxious for tomorrow…

If he is our President, I would be so honored to ever shake his hand or hear him speak.

Fingers crossed, heart full, hopes high…

    Obama 08!

  6. I’m so jealous for two reasons: 1) You got to see Bill and Barack and 2) That’s the coat!!! Ahh! It looks great on you :)

    How fun!

Swing states do get a LOT of opportunities to see the candidates. My family members have been to tons of rallies.

Barack, Michelle, and Bruce Springsteen did a concert here in Cleveland Sunday, but I opted out because I hate huge crowds. Plus, it was the WEEKEND. Ha.

    Yes, I’m lazy, okay!?

Woo!!!!!!!!!!!! Still doesn’t feel totally real.

Since the Democratic Primaries ran so long this election, we actually had rallies in Texas w/ Democrats! My mom & I went to see Hillary once and Bill once. It was awesome.
