Yeah we made it. Good thing we left early in the afternoon. It only took an extra half hour to get to Bako. Better than an extra two hours I guess.
I’ll be the first to say that’s I’ve become cynical lately. Just going through a slump I guess. It’s hard when you can’t go a day without doom and gloom in the news about the economy, even though it hasn’t affected us in any big way. But I can’t help but feel for those who have been laid off and are facing a less than joyful holiday season.
So I’ve sought out this Thanksgiving to remind myself the things I can be thankful for. It’s about time there was an uplifting spirit around here.
- My husband. Seriously like wow. He’s so great. He pushes me to be the best person that I can be. He always has my best interest at heart. I love how I can say anything to him, bring up any topic, and he listens and gives his feedback. And he watches Desperate Housewives with me.
- My mom. Who listens to me and gets me. I don’t know how I would get through my evening commute without chatting with her on the phone.
- My dad. Who sends us coupons as his way of still providing for his little girl. It makes me smile.
- My sister. Who has grown up to be such a smart young lady. I love it and hope hope hope she gets accepted to San Jose State so that we can hang out.
- My little brother who rocks at running and gave my mom the true cross country star she’d been waiting for. And who gets along with my husband better than I could have ever hoped for.
- My extended family. All of them. Who are all different and all fun to visit with and play games with. Whether it be canasta or scattergories.
- My in-laws. Having been married for a year and a half and having known them for even longer (some much much longer), it most definitely feels like I’ve been a part of the family forever. And I love it.
- My friends. Some who I’ve known forever and a day. Some who I knew in Kindergarten and through the wonder of the internet I get to know in my adult life even though she lives on the other side of the country (Hollie). Some who I grew up with and still get to talk to almost everyday even though we don’t live in the same town. Some who I met later in life that mean no less to me.
- And you. You blog readers. You people who are scarily similar to myself. Who I have gotten to know so while in such a short amount of time. You who are there when I need you. You who if I knew you in person I know we’d be the best of friends.
Let’s also not forget about the dogs who were also filled with the Thanksgiving spirit this morning and dressed up like our favorite holiday dishes.
So the cost of pumpkin pie filling may have gone up (that’s just what flashed on the news while I was writing this), but there are so many things in life that we can be thankful for that have nothing to do with whether or not we’ve gotten laid off, whether or not we’re getting a Christmas bonus or a company Christmas party, or whether or not big businesses get bailouts. I’m looking forward to a simple holiday season. One that concentrates on what is truly important.
Oh yeah and one that puts me into a buzzed and happy food coma. But that’s a given.
This morning, Cale shared with me some words of wisdom I spoke of last night, while I was sleeping. So here they are “Don’t Die. It’s Thanksgiving.”

Well, at least your not completely cynical yet – it’s good to keep in mind things that you have that many others might not and be thankful for that. No matter how difficult it is (like, I keep telling myself that I’m thankful that I have a job now, even though it’s subbing and it sucks. Right? Right?) It sounds like you have lots to be thankful for and I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
A husband who watches DH w/ you is a great man!
