A Sensibly Delightful Dinner

January 16th, 2009

Last night I got a message from a Miss Sensibly Sassy asking me to dinner tonight. Of course I said yes! A Friday night dinner at Pasta Pomodoro with Sarah?! How could I say no? For two blog friends who live probably within 40 miles of each other and work in the same city to not meet up is just preposterous! We had a great chat, and I even got to see a picture of her baby boy bulldog! So adorable! And I can’t wait until she gets him. I sense many puppy play dates in our future.

The always necessary picture proof of a blogger meetup

A few of you asked what in the world I was painting in my daily photo. Well since you asked…

The new paintings to go over our bed

(For anyone who has already read this and commented on the picture in Flickr.. THANK YOU! Gosh you guys are so sweet you have no idea.)

I had to replace the previous painting that hung above our bed because it looked as my husband so lovingly described it like poop smears. That’s what I get for painting while drinking and watching Sixteen candles.

This time I painted completely sober while watching Sex and the City. What is it? No clue.. maybe a branch with the buds of new leaves? I just wanted something big and simple that would not resemble poop smears and would not compete with the numerous patterns going on in our room.

And viola… the picture of… something that does not resemble poop smears.

SUCCESS!

(and I totally made our bed just to take this picture. le sigh)

And one last poop smears just for Kerri. ;)

A little on my painting history. I took several classes in high school (with Alyssa!) and took another class in college. I haven’t really painted since, and even in those classes I wasn’t all that great. It’s just something I like to do every once and a while. So I just kind of paint whenever I actually have time and whenever I can clean the paints up in time before I have my cat tracking blue paw prints throughout the house. And just to show that the limited skill I do have just runs in the family, one of the many many paintings my grandma has passed our way over time:

And yep, that would be me in that painting.

What are your plans this weekend? My dad is coming to visit on Sunday evening. Also depending on how much work I end up with, we even may try to take the dogs to the beach. We’ll see. But I hope you have a great one!

I can’t believe you painted that!! You are such a woman of many many talents! I think it is great and looks amazing over your bed!

  13. YEAH! For blogger meet ups!! Sarah seems to be getting around these days. :-) I’m jealous I’m not near more bloggers.

Ok. Seriously Stephanie, your painting is so awesome. That could be mass produced and sold at Cost Plus or something. Its so beautiful!! And its a double SCORE that it doesn’t look like poop smears.

Not sure if you have shown the previous painting before, but I think you’re gonna have to show just exactly what Cale considers a poop smear-like painting. :-)

  14. Talia says:

well, I knew you could paint (because of your Color Me Mine bowl :) ), but seriously, this is amazing!! I LOVE how it looks, and am so impressed. GREAT job. It”s so modern and fresh-looking! You may have inspired me to try my hand at something like this someday. I’m not a painter, but it’d be fun to try!
Yay for getting to meet up with Sarah! It looks like you girls had so much fun.

    PS. your bed is pretty!!

  15. Aww I bet you and Sarah had so much fun! It’s so cool you guys live so close! Lucky!!! Love the painting! It’s so beautiful! It matches your bedroom perfectly and it’s so neato that it’s a unique Steph Corwin piece! Talent really does run in the family – I love the painting of you as a lil girl!

  16. wishcake says:

Poop smears! Buahahahaha! Gets me every time! It will never get old! (I’m basically a six year old boy right now.) And seriously, your painting is absolutely gorgeous. It’s something they would sell at Pier 1 or something. You are crazy talented.

What a fun blogger meet-up – I do believe I’m about due for another. They make me happy. And you guys met at Pasta Pomodoro? Even better. I’d go to that place JUST to eat the bread and dippy sauce. Mmmm.

  17. Steph says:

Wishcake, you are totally right about that dipping sauce! I had never had it before because the only time I’d eaten from there was during work meetings. That sauce may be my new favorite thing. EVER.

  18. ashley says:

    You are awesome.

    What talent! Seriously!
