All Those Little Things

February 28th, 2009

Last week I began a quest, after Jimaie Marie introduced me to this Grace in Small Things. Grace, as in, A characteristic or quality pleasing for its charm or refinement. It’s an effort to recognize those small things in our day that are good. A way to battle the bitterness each and every day. Because no matter how badly it may have seemed, choosing five things that lifted your spirits can really change your perspective.

How was my week? Well thanks for asking!

February 22, 2009

  1. Feeling clarity and finally figuring out that work assignment.
  2. Watching You’ve Got Mail and remembering when Meg Ryan used to be so beautiful.
  3. Cozy socks to keep my toesies warm.
  4. Clean puppies whose fluffy fur is irresistible.
  5. A yummy smelling soy candle on a pretty tea plate.

February 23, 2009

  1. Pasta for dinner, something that can always satisfy in that perfect way.
  2. Actually remembering that How I Met Your Mother is on tonight.
  3. Realizing the world can go on if I skip cleaning the house for two weekends in a row.
  4. Kicking my feet up on our oversized ottoman.
  5. Fitting some blog time in during a busy day.

February 24, 2009

  1. Falafel sandwiches at the end of a long day.
  2. Remembering my Intellectual Devotional this morning.
  3. Reminiscing by watching The OC.
  4. Watching two puppies’ rhythmic breathing as they sleep.
  5. Hearing my husband have quality time with his brother in our living room.

February 25, 2009

  1. Free cake samples at lunch.
  2. Free RED VELVET cake samples at lunch (I’m not kidding, it deserved two of my five. It was THAT good).
  3. Watching Religulous with my husband and laughing my booty off.
  4. Finding a perfect grocery store.
  5. Appreciating having electricity after waking up this morning without it.

February 26, 2009

  1. Getting my five things in before midnight.
  2. Being super productive at work.
  3. Three boxes of girl scout cookies all to myself.
  4. Getting a cool souvenir from a coworker. (Thanks Diana!!)
  5. A hot cup of black coffee that did not give me a stomachache.

February 27, 2009

  1. Living room dance party with my husband with crazy club music.
  2. Going on a spontaneous dinner date with my husband at the end of a long work day.
  3. Watching a movie by candlelight.
  4. $1 movie rentals while waiting for our Netflix to come.
  5. Warm sake.

February 28, 2009

  1. Taking pictures of the blossoms on our tree before they’ve all blown away.
  2. Organizing our desk so now everything is able to be found.
  3. Going to the Apple Store and drooling over iMacs.
  4. Veggie omelets with hot coffee.
  5. Peace and quiet.

The flower is my second favorite part after the faint form of our picket fence in the background. This just all screams spring! I can’t wait!

So who’s with me? Let’s get out of the bitter barn and play in the hay! You can find me in the Grace in Small Things community here, and I’ll be streaming my daily updates in the side bar on this blog.

Tell me, what made you smile today?

Great, uplifting post. It’s oftentimes easy to forget all of the little, awesome things we have in our lives. I smiled when I woke up to a thin blanket of snow on the ground – on the first day of March! We haven’t had a good snow at all this winter, so I was happy to see something. I’m also happy about oatmeal. Yum. :o )

First off, this is such an inspiring post! It is such a great idea to focus on the positive, even if it’s only a few things per day. It can really change your overall attitude.

Second, LOVE that photo! It reminds me of a little cottage up North or something… that fence in the background is perfect. I wish it looked like Spring over here. I think we have another month of 10 degree weather and snow first…

This morning I’m feeling inspired because I paid all of my bills and I still have money to spare! That’s an amazing feeling right now!

It is a great reminder to always find beauty everyday. I was particularly pleased yesterday form 1. The amazing weather we had for our horse day in Lockwood. 2. Spending that wonderful day with Andrew and old friends. 3. Not falling of Astro when he decided to shake!

I love reading everyone’s little things posts. They make me smile and remember the great things I enjoyed that day/week. I love the spring picture. I am anxiously waiting for spring to officially hit. We keep getting teased with warm weather quickly followed by freezing temperatures.

  8. Yay for free cake! and Pasta! And fluffy puppies! I love your list! Oh, and that photo you included — you did a wonderful job with that shot! It makes me so excited for spring – I wanna run outside and play in the sunshine!

    Kate,

I got 1 box of each: Tagalongs, Samoas, and the new Dulce de Leche ones.

My husband got three of Thin Mints.

Mine are all gone and his are still in the freezer. Why do I have no self control?! lol
