Things that are making me smile

April 22nd, 2009
  • How I Met Your Mother. For reals. Which one of my friends wants to start acting like Barney? Because I think he is what is missing from my life.
  • Seeing two adorable little babies this weekend. Oh yeah and their moms too. ;)
  • NOT having heat stroke on Sunday. Though just barely. Because I most definitely got into the heat exhaustion arena Sunday evening. Dang you Bakersfield; I move away and lose all tolerance for extreme temperatures. This may be your way of getting back at me for bad-mouthing you, but making me sick… not going to make me like you any more.
  • Somewhat related: Buying an air conditioner for the cottage. Because my body and my marriage cannot handle another summer without it. I most certainly get cranky when I’m overheated.
  • Susan Boyle: Normally I have zero interest in any sort of singing/dancing/talent reality shows. But after seeing the name Susan Boyle all over the internet I finally googled her. Wow. I mean I was just speechless. One of the many reasons I don’t watch those kinds of shows is because I despise the auditions. It just makes me cringe knowing how many people are just judging these poor people. They really think that they are great, and I feel it’s generally mean-spirited and never constructive criticism. So when Susan walked out my first instinct was Great it’s just another William Hung-type thing. And then she sang. It was so honest and real. My eyes watered. It was marvelous.
  • Looking forward to a weekend away in June. A weekend away in VEGAS. With bloggers. Where I am rooming with wishcake herself! And a few others who have yet to be confirmed. So if you don’t already think I’m crazy, you have this right: I am getting on a plane, flying to Vegas, to spend an entire weekend with people I do not know “in real life” and will be sleeping in a hotel room with people I do not know. To get over my social anxiety nerves, you better believe there will be cocktails involved.
  • Starting 30 days of 30 minutes of exercise a day from my 101 list. Today. Because a trip with bloggers will most likely include photographs. And busy season left me zero time to work out. And plenty of trips for fast food. You get the picture.
  • Knowing that I’ll be able to get off work at a decent enough hour to go to the grocery store. That is a new feat in itself.

We can’t forget this guy! This crazy guy who is letting his wife go to Vegas with a bunch of people without him. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that he has the LSAT that Monday and would like some peaceful and quiet study time.

What has been making you smile lately?

I’m so excited for Vegas – strangers or not, it’s going to be a heck of a lot of fun. I’m going to geek out completely when I meet you, it’ll be good =)

What’s been making me smile is that it’s around 5 – 10 degrees C here at any given time, which means that summer WILL come – and with the winters we have that makes me chipper as anything.

    Kyla,

Oh goodness you are going to MELT in Vegas! How warm does it get where you live during the summer? Have you ever been in over 100 degrees F weather (or 38 degrees C)? I’ll have to bring you one of these hehe!

Well, I’m certain it wasn’t that picture you linked to. :) :) :)

I’ll be your Barney if you’ll be mine! Ahhh I love that show!

  5. That picture of obese ladies was gross! Blech! You SURELY do not need to worry about looking ANYTHING like that! :]

I workout for an hour every day: 30 mins on elliptical machine and 30 of lunges/situps on ball/weights… and I am 39 weeks pregnant! I can’t believe I can still do this so you can TOTALLY do it!!! YAY! If you need some motivation let me know- I am good at this.

Also, kick the fast food hunch by pre-packing meals/snacks. I do this all the time and although I indulge like 1-2 times a month… it’s better than 1-2 times a day, lol. :]

i’m with kyla. i’ll totally be geeking out meeting you guys in vegas. i was trying to explain this trip to a non blogger friend and pretty much said the exact same thing as you. “No. I don’t know them. Yes, I’m rooming and driving with them.” haha. It’s fantastic that we can do this. :)

Really, I watched Mary Poppins the other day with the kids. That movie always makes me smile. Plus I really want her scarf. The beautiful knitted/crocheted one she wears at the beginning of the movie. Goreous. I’ll have to learn how to knit/crochet just to make myself one.

i’m going to vegas, toooo! granted i can find flights at reasonable times and prices.

i’m definitely going to start working out because of the trip, too, haha, i don’t want to be the only one that doesn’t look fabulous in the pictures :)

and how great was that susan boyle bit? i was in tears with the biggest grin on my face. she was just spectacular.

I didn’t know you lived in Bakersfield!!! I have family in Bakersfield! How neat. :]

you get to go to Vegas with a bunch of bloggers? And room with Wishcake?? I’m SOOO jealous. But in a I’m-so-happy-and-excited-for-you kind of way, not the nasty way. :) That is going to be fabulously fun!! Woohoo!!

thanks for burning my eyes with the picture of the obese women. Not expecting that one. EW!!

I just watched Susan Boyle’s performance for the first time yesterday too! And I agree, it was wonderful. Total goosebumps. I love when someone’s dream comes true contrary to what others may be thinking.

by the way, since you were wondering, I just wrote the blog Lydia was waiting for. It was one about her visit… yeah, I’m way behind!

so lovely to see you this weekend, cousin :)

  11. Amanda says:

I’m going to Vegas too! I’m trying to read up on everyone’s blogs before the trip, so hi!

And “How I Met Your Mother” is definitely one of my favorite shows. I’ve gotten most of my friends addicted to it!

  12. Steph says:

    lucklys,

Yay!! Vegas will be so fun. Yeah I’m a slacker and haven’t bought my tickets yet either. I’m still trying to figure out what time I want to leave and come back.

  13. Steph says:

    Amanda,

I am doing the exact same thing. Yesterday I was adding tons of blogs to my reader because I want to get to know people before I show up.

I didn’t start watching How I Met Your Mother until a few weeks ago and I have crammed all four seasons of episodes in so now I’m finally caught up. For a while I was living and breathing HIMYM. A little overboard. haha!

I definitely can’t wait until the trip, even if it means having my LSAT book in my purse all weekend like a crazy lady. I’m sure I am not very sane for planning a trip right before that, but hey! It’s going to be all kinds of awesome, and it is good incentive to start studying before that weekend!
