Friday Fitness Update Week 2

May 15th, 2009

Hello? Oh hey. Yeah. So. I suck at the blogging thing, but yes I’m alive. I cannot even believe how it is already Friday. Where did this week go?

I kept up my end of the bargain. Well pretty much. Except for Sunday, which we shall not discuss, okay? Well fine. I knew I’d have to face you all sooner or later. Let’s just say Mother’s Day + an indestructible migraine = No workout. Since I did start my workouts one day early, I’ve just moved my days around. But I did not just give up. That’s the lesson of the story. One setback, and I’m still here. Shredding my booty off. I did not bury my woes in a pint of ice cream, no matter how tempting it may have been. (Okay okay! Cale and I did get a scoop of gelato.. but it was just one!).

Whew. Okay I got that off my chest. I’ve seen around the blogosphere that a few of you missed a day too, so I will go ahead and say it: It’s okay! The most important part is that you get right back into the routine. I’m not going to be the workout nazi and say No whipped soap for you! To be honest, I could care less if you miss a day or two, I just want everyone to get their booties moving. Isn’t that the point? So if you’ve missed a day or two, brush it off and keep up with the rest of us!

I would do my checklist of workouts, but this is pretty much what it looks like: Shred, Shred, Shred, Shred (omg I did all the shoulder raises without cheating!), Shred. Yeah I think that covers it. Last Friday I did hit the pool. Outside! It was a nice long lunch break. I even got a tan just from the 45 minutes I was out there. Swimming is such a deceiving workout for me. I spent my whole life perfecting my technique to make my stroke more efficient. So now, when I swim I feel like I’m barely working hard (yes I know, this is a good thing) while I’m doing it. Ohhhh man though, once I got out I could feel it all in my arms and back. I was one sore woman that evening. And the next day. And even a little on Sunday.

Have you noticed a difference? Today will be Day Ten for me. I’m constantly walking up to Cale with the same question: Do I look skinnier?? He says what any smart husband would say: Of course! Riiiight. But I do feel stronger. Earlier this week I was shocked to find my tricep. That little muscle that slowly disappeared over the years. Yeah it’s back baby! I’m really enjoying the 30 Day Shred, and I’m pretty nervous about moving on to Level Two tomorrow. I can just remember how I floundered around like an idiot my first time with Level 1. Now I get to look forward to doing that all again. But it’s time to move on, no more being a big fish in a little pond. Level 2, can you please be nice to me tomorrow? I look forward to getting acquainted with you.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty dang sexy after I workout.

So to everyone whose working out along with me: how has your week been? Give us an update, either in a comment or a blog post. Let’s keep each other motivated!

I need to pickup the Shred because I’m sure it will kick my butt into high gear. I’ve been working out, but it’s not as often as I’d like. I’m going to STICK WITH IT THOUGH!!! I haven’t given up hope nor have I wanted to just quit. This whole thing is a bit different this time around. Thanks for the update from your end and thanks for even putting this challenge out there. :)

  2. Trysha says:

I’m still doing it! This week was much easier than last week. Yesterday I even lengthened my run and it felt good to not struggle through it.
I did go shopping on Monday and my pants are down 2 sizes! Not where I ultimately want to be but its a sign of progress!

  3. steph anne says:

I wish I could say I kept up with it. It was hard especially after the accident happened. I’m still getting lame-exercise-that-requires-no-sweat. I need to bust it up!

    P.S. You look fabulous!

  4. Leslie says:

good job! starting monday, i’m going to try to ride my bike to school every day. it’s 7 miles. so, we’ll see how long that lasts. but, i think i’m going to reward myself by buying something that costs how much money i’ll be saving on gas each month ($60-ish). but i only get the prize if i do it every day, or basically every day. keep it up!

  5. Elizabeth says:

It’s going–some days, okay most days, aren’t as intense as they probably should be. I’ll blame that on a pretty nasty head cold!

My update is that last weekend I ran 4 miles for the first time in my life and it was NOT fun lol It was good, but I’m not sure what I would have to do to get used to that. I’ve eased off (after recovering in a bath of epsom salts) and have been sticking with my walking and yoga since. I’m walking with the puppies for about an hour every day and am trying to step it up and walk the puppies in the morning with Mister every day. I’m working on it!

    I love Cale’s shirt LOL!
I cannot join b/c of a STUPID STUPID injury that I have or else I would’ve SO been on board :( I have a series of dr’s appts and tests coming up for a dumb back/nerve injury, lots of fun…not.
I’m thinking that I should start stretching every day b/c i am soooo inflexible, LOL, i love how sissy that sounds compared to what you and everyone else is doing but dangit, it’s a start ;)
    You guys are awesome!

  8. Rene' says:

OK, I agree with the Sunday thing…. It was a long day and we DID walk that day… just not very far!

This week was tough. Finals are next week and I am up to my tail in grading. We were out of town this weekend, but I got in a swim on Thursday at the hotel. Can you believe that nobody was in the outdoor HEATED pool? Friday, Saturday and Sunday we walked, downtown Reno and around horses, but we walked.

Next week is finals and my time will again be my own. I plan on adding more swimming. I would like to find some of those lost muscles myself. :)

  9. Yay! I’m glad you’re not being a workout nazi ;) heee! When I missed one day last Monday I was so sad and all I could think was, I WANTED THAT SOAP! ha. I am really loving this challenge, Steph! And I’m totally going to blog about it soon! I know it doesn’t seem like it, since i really. really, really suck at blogging these days. But for realz!

Congrats for being so kick-ass with this challenge! Swimming is such a great work out! I hope my condo’s pool isn’t totally overrun by childrens and maybe I can find some time to get some laps in! I’m so jealous that you’re such a pro at swimming and it comes so easy to you! Sounds like you got an awesome workout since you were so sore afterwards!

Whoa, this comment is way too long and rambling! Hope you had a good weekend, lady!

Oh, and now you’ve made me really scared of getting to level two of the shred! ahhh!

  10. Andrea says:

You did all the squat/shoulder raises without cheating!? I’m impressed. I hope I get there soon. Those and the side lunge/ anterior raises beat the crap out of me. But I do feel a lot stronger!

I’ve missed a couple days, but this challenge is definitely keeping me motivated more than anything else I’ve ever tried! Thanks for arranging it!

  11. I am chuggin right along chica! Some days are less strenuous than others but just being active every day is really energizing. :)

  12. michelle woo says:

I’ve been feeling like a FAIL because I missed two days, but I feel a billion times better that you think it’s OK! I’m back, though. Game on.

  13. Lys says:

i have a sad, sad confession to make. i’ve been out of commission for almost a week due to aunt flo (i know, normally a weak excuse even in my book, but i was literally puking from the cramps, so i count that as exercise), and now i have a lovely cold that has currently taken over my entire head and throat. i’m still eating less and healthier and i’ve been adding some vitamin supplements to my diet so i’m not completely out of the loop.

    don’t forget about meeee!

    (also, moved my blog)

  14. E.P. says:

I have failed horribly at this working out thing. I try to walk the dog every day, and then Saturday happened. I had to work all day, so no walk. Then Sunday? It rained all day. Yesterday and today? Stomach bug. Fail.

I’m hoping to hop back on the boat by tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me!
